How to Connect a Wireless Router

Wireless routers are used more and more throughout the world to stay connected to the internet. Routers allow signals from the internet to get transmitted through air waves and spread throughout a semi-wide radial distance. Depending on the power of the wireless router, the signals can span anywhere from several yards to several blocks.

  1. First: Purchase the router

Determine what type of networking router is compatible with the wireless device that you wish to connect to the internet. If you are unsure of the type of router that is needed, a browser search or trip to any retail or electronic store is sure to assist you in this factor.

  2. Second: Connect the router to the main internet supply

Most people have home internet service that is connected through a phone jack in their home and run to the computer via an ethernet cord. Connecting the ethernet cord to the router allows the internet to disperse throughout the area once setup is complete.

  3. Third: Set up the computer

If you wish to have multiple computers or devices connect to the internet via wireless router, it is important to set up networks correctly. On a Windows operational computer, you would click the Start menu and travel to Network. From there, Windows guides you through a setup wizard to install the router into the system.

  4. Fourth: Activate Wi-Fi discovery on any mobile devices

Mobile devices often find Wi-Fi without your commanding them to; however, if you must turn on the Wi-Fi finder, do so. The device should find the wireless router that you just installed, and from there, the mobile device has the ability to connect to the internet.
